Agate Construction Co., Inc. was selected by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey for the reconstruction of two collapsed wharfs at Port Newark. The project required dredging and disposal of approximately 20,000 CY of contaminated dredge material. Demolition work included the removal and disposal of timber piles and wales, structural steel, reinforced concrete seawall, pier caps and deck from the original wharf structures.
Reconstruction included the placement of 4,000 CY of stone fill for slope stabilization, installation of a sheet pile wall with concrete cap, installation of (141) 12” diameter x 80’ long continuous pipe piles drilled thru the existing overburden using a down-the-hole hammer and rock-socketed into the existing bedrock, new cast-in-place concrete pile caps within the tidal zone, installation of new low level concrete deck, full perimeter sea-wall, new timber fender system and new mooring bollards.
