The project consisted of the installation of jetty stone and marine mattresses located at the south end of Island Beach State Park. The elements constructed included 11,155 square yards of stone-filled marine mattresses along with 580 linear feet of stone jetty. 15,825 tons of stone was removed and reinstalled along with a total of 21,625 tons of stone imported to the job site. The project was designed to reverse damage to the jetty caused by Hurricane Sandy along with stabilizing the north side of the inlet for vessel traffic and recreational fishing. Two additional areas located to the east and west of the proposed jetty footprint were also improved during this project.
